Star Trek

OK. I know I haven't posted in a while... a looooong while. But work and life have been quite busy. Just like yours... yep.

However, I am breaking my silence to let you all know:

I am a big fan of the original Star Trek series. I never enjoyed Next Gen, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise as much as I did the original. Maybe because I saw it as a child - and yes it was the show that started me down the path of Sci-Fi - and lived with reruns as long as it was in syndication.

Last week I was invited to an advanced screening of the movie and here are my thoughts:

FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!

The movie was energetic, entertaining (a good plot) and kept true to much of what I call the Canon of Star Trek. For me that is the way the characters acted towards each other; how they acted (character quirks - physical and mental); and the story.

I can honestly say that all the actors were spot on in the physical quirks. That is they brought out the little things I remember about the original crew without acting like they were imitating. Their scripts were well written and well executed - especially the classic key phrases of each crew member...

As for the story, it was well thought out and well presented. The deviations from the original (very few) were explained "in movie" in a positive and believable fashion (remember it's still Sci-Fi). I had no qualms with the one deviation (small spoiler - it involves the Romulans).

I strongly recommend this movie. I will be seeing it again twice real soon as part of a corporate event and I look forward to it. It's that good.

Tau Kappa Epsilon - Sigma Alpha Chapter (FIU)

In honor of the 20th Anniversary of the founding of the Sigma Alpha Chapter at Florida International University Frater Reynaldo Morales distributed the following to all members (repeated below as he expressed it as best as possible):

Fraters,

20 Years Ago Today, The Sigma Alpha Chapter was installed by a whole bunch of guys that wanted to be in the Best Collegiate Fraternity in Existence in the History of the World. They started what would become the cornerstone of what is the Truest Brotherhood in FIU's Greek System - TKE: Sigma Alpha Chapter.

Everyone one of us joined for a reason and found many more reasons to care for TKE, we all put in and got more than we expected, adding to the TKE Experience here and to Your Fraters lives.

Today, 20 Years Later, on this Momentous day, take a moment and Celebrate your Fraters around you and Honor those before you as we give thanks to 5 guys back in 1899 for coming up with something really Magnificent and to the whole bunch of guys in 1988 that brought it to us here in FIU.

To this Magnificent Obsession that is TKE at FIU - Happy Local Founder's Day - Sigma Alpha Fraters!
